Bred in France in 1822 by Pierre Cochet, this historic heirloom Noisette variety is named after the famous explorer Admiral Louis-Antoine de Bougainville. It produces enormous, heavy clusters that can hold dozens of small, exceptionally double blooms. The flowers open from purple buds into deep violet-pink blossoms that softly fade to a dreamy lilac over time, mimicking the vibrant look of a Mediterranean bougainvillea vine.
